my 2000 nissan maxima keeps turning off. why?

when i first start the car i have to press the gas pedal to keep it on if not it will turn off.what can i do to fix
this?

Could be the throttle position sensor or mass airflow sensor. I'd have those inspected first.

Most likely culprit would be the throttle position senso, second would be the mass air flow sensor, but you might have a vacuum leak somewhere in your emission hoses. A failing MAF would probably also trip a check engine light.
