2002 Nissan Sentra Rough Start

Asked by agt0613 Dec 24, 2014 at 03:19 PM about the 2002 Nissan Sentra

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Sentra started running rough/missing for the first 15-20 seconds after starting.  After that, it smoothes out and idles fine.  No CEL.  Any ideas why it would just miss on a cold start?

If it's acutally skipping, you may have a bad coil pack. If it's just a rough idle,I'm going to say it's carbon build up on your throttle body and IAC valve. (Air Intake Control). Buy a can of throttle body cleaner and clean them both. If no idea on how to do it, just Youtube Nissan IAC cleaning. Plenty of videos.

Leaky injector is what I was thinking. I just noticed a fuel smell after starting it the last time.

you probably have a blown headgasket. check your coolant level and monitor it. ill bet its going down. very common on 1.8
