what will happen if i use a different battery type in my car?

I need a cheap battery that will get me home about an hour away. If I use a different battery type, will it work?

Shouldn't be any problem as long as it has enough cranking amps to turn the engine. Couple of my cars I use a bit larger battery because it still fits in the battery box.
