my mitsubishi eclipse runs at a really high rpm its like the rpms are stuck then it will stop and idle normal what do i do

also when you press the gas the car kinda gasps for air and is like its out of gas it starts poping under the hood

Popping under hood? Do you mean back firing? If so how long since your timing belt was replace? If unsure I would inspect timing belt for wear, tension and proper alignment.

Agree with dandyoun,sound,s like it may be out of time,back firing is sign of of the time.

My rpm is at 2500 running at 40 MPH. Everytime i stopping my rpm will go down between 0 to 1000 and the wngines will turn off. Its a manual transmission. Pls. Help
