Can a starting sensor for a 3.0 Mitsubishi Montero be used on a 3.5?

Asked by fritz671 Oct 22, 2016 at 01:08 AM about the 1998 Mitsubishi Montero

Question type: General

The engine won't start, it cranks but won't start. Gas is good, there is
power, it seems like it would start, but it would die out. Have to press the
gas to try to start it and sometimes it would start then die after a while. It
first started on the road. The lights faded while in traffic and died. Had to
keep pressing the gas when in idle.  Just wondering if the sensor would
work. or what is wrong with it in general.

I'd suspect the idle control motor is either going bad or its so gunked up it can't do its job . Unplug it amd see if it acts the same way ..then plug it back In and restart it .sometimes they will reset themselves . I'd tell you to spray out throttle aND idle air and egr ports but that would mean replacing the spark plugs after and most won't atypt to do it on that mistsu...Good luck
