2002 eclipse 2.4l mt

What is the best engine and transmission swap for
a 2002 Mitsubishi eclipse. It has a running 2.4 in it
right now, but the transmission is shot. I've got
about 1000-1500 to start with towards the project.
I'm looking for an engine that I would be able to
turbo later on, and a transmission that'll be able to
withstand it.

Look for wrecked 2002 Eclipses on Craig's List.
