2004 Mitsubishi Endeavor Upper Engine Noise

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hello, I am posting a video of another 2004 mitsubishi endeavor that sounds identical to mine.  The engine sounds horrible, coming from the upper cam area.  I have had timing belt and idler pully changed, hot oil flush and stp oil treatment.  At 4200 ft elevation the engine is brutal sounding, always...below 1600 rpm.  When I travel over 100 ks in to other towns at 2000 ft less elevation and restart the engine, the noise goes away and does not come back until i am home again at high elevation.  Is there a timing altitude sensor that throws the engine out of time?  You would throw the engine away at 4200ft but at 2000ft it runs perfect?  Soo stumped.  Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction...as this is not an isolated incident for sure.  Thanks for any help.

drop your oil pan and check your bearings,, also might wanna check to see if the belt is in good shape and if its rubbing on something,, cause it really sounds like a rod bearing going out, also take a screw driver and place the tip to the pan and then to the valve cover and the timing belt cover and see what you hear,,, if you hear some thumping its a rod for sure,, erify this all by visually and physically checking your bearings by hand/eye

Timing belt and idler pully are brand new. Engine sound completely disappears at low altitude. A main wouldn't do this, main bearings are a deeper thumping sound. There is relevance to altitude, what is the secret. I'm aware air is thinner and the car should automatically adjust. Did you look at the video?
