Nothing coming from 12Volt line going into the stereo on 2001 Grand Marquis

Asked by Brian Apr 27, 2018 at 03:52 PM about the 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis

Question type: General

I removed the factory stereo, and matched the pigtail of the aftermarket Dual
stereo, color for color. Didn't work. I went back and checked the wires with a
voltmeter and am getting the required voltage on all of them EXCEPT the
battery constant, which reads 0.  I checked the fuses, and all other
electricals are working as far as I can tell. The factory stereo was operating
just fine up until I performed this install, so I am at somewhat of a loss as to
what to do. Any guidance on how to further trouble shoot this?

You should have bought an adapter cable from Amazon. The colors may not match. Buy the adapter, and put the old socket back on the pigtail. Obviously the power wire is a different color, with a voltmeter, you could figure which is which, but with the adapter, it's easy.
