can not put car in gear while running

can't put car in gear while is running and when you apply the breaks lights does not get brighter. What's going on?

I would check the BOO switch (Brake On Off) behind the brake pedal. It is your most likely culprit. Shift interlock is not seeing the brake depressed so it is not releasing the interlock.
