dude, i had the same problem! , no worries my friend, easy fix! just open your side fuse panel which is at the passenger side and remove 20amp fuse which is yellow and start the vehicle without the fuse and after that put the fuse back in and start the vehicle again, should have sound now and display.

Worked great for me. There are four yellow 20 amp fuses on the side fuse panel on the passenger side inside. I took out the one marked “radio”. Remove the fuse. Start the car without the fuse. Shut it off. Reinstall the fuse. Restart the car. Wolla! Radio and technology on. Saved me $125.00 at the dealer!

Worked for me! 2015 Chevy Equinox. Battery died and had to replace it. When i started the vehicle the radio was locked. Once i found the correct radio fuse, i removed it started the car. Removed the fuse and restarted and it worked!! Thank you!!!

FIRST, check battery terminals. The corrosion was sending an intermittent charge to the VVT system causing my Equinox to die at idle.

Thank you, thank you. You saved me almost 2 hours of driving back and forth to the dealer plus their exorbitant fees!!! I think it took all of 3 minutes.

I have a new radio with the new code, but I can't get my 2016 Equinox to allow me to enter a new code. It won't move past the "locked" screen.

Thank you everybody. I have a 2016 Equinox LTZ, had to jump start it twice. Second time the radio screen went out and displayed “LOCKED”. Following the advice above, car off, removed radio fuse, started car, turned off, replaced fuse, started car, FIXED!

Thank you GuruPRWMY, the fix worked. My only issue doing the procedure was to find the correct fuse, the diagram on the fuse holder lid was a little misleading, eventually found the correct fuse and now the "Locked" display is gone.

This was very helpful! My car battery died and we had to recharge it. It reset everything in the car and when I drove to work in silence, trying to figure out why my radio said “locked” and pushing every button possible to no avail. Once I got to work, did an internet search, this article popped up first. I did just what it said and worked perfectly! Thank you!!!

Your awesome! This worked just as you said on my 2015 equinox. I love it when a guy who has little to no car experience can fix a problem with your help. I am sure the dealership would have had me bring in the car, let it sit in the work bay for a hour or two and then brought it out "repaired" while I get to spend $100+ in labor costs. It only took me about two minutes to get this done with your advice.

On a 2013 Equinox we replaced the stereo along with the CD changer with a used one and now I have a "lock" on the screen ,any suggestions ?

This worked for me too. 2016 Equinox. Battery went down to 0% and had to jump start it twice, it had locked on the 2nd restart. Followed steps (started once without fuse, then with fuse) and it booted right up.

Brought it to Chevy, the techs obviously dont know about this fix... They uploaded all new software. Called and they said its half way through. Hey... at least I get the lastest software update... ;( should have started here first. Im a big dummy

It worked on my 2015 Equinox but I had to try all (4) yellow 20 amps and the last was the one! Thank you!

Hey I tried it your way and tested all of the fuses that didn’t work for me. I have a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox LTZ with the my link display screen. It’s still saying locked. I think the previous owner changed the screen because when you reset it, it says GMC. I replaced it with a Chevrolet my link display screen, and a new radio unit. Still nothing.

This worked!! Thank you! It would have cost me $175.00 at the dealer just to diagnose it.
