Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Why is the warning message showing now:
"Cooling performance of the hybrid battery is low ...
see your dealer". Is this serious and will cost me a
lot of money or can I do something to fix the
problem without seeing the dealer???  Thank you
so much for your time!! JM

The hybrid battery must be overheating. Ask your dealer how serious it is. Is your car still under warranty?

The hybrid battery is not overheating but this might happen. There is a circular air vent for air intake. This intake can get clogged by dirt and hair which can block air from coming in the intake vent whick cools the battery. The dealer would require 150 to take off the back seat to get to the filter to clean it. The mechanic at Toyota suggested I should brush it out or try to do it myself. I was able to pry the plastic back enough to see where hair had built up and created a clog. I have a dog and was traveling with him a bit. I cleared it with my hand and it was clean. I could see air filters may at some point need to be changed. If the problem persists come in again. Really grateful to that mechanic.

Have the fan and rear vent cleaned. It’s clogged up. To erase the message after, I disconnected the auxiliary 12V positive only, for 1 minute and 30 seconds, and then unlock then lock the Orange switch and on the back, and that got the message erased. Saved me $140 from taking it to the dealer to erase the message. Just thought I’d save your viewers money.

After you disconnect the Auxiliary 12v positive for 1 minute, unlock and lock the orange switch and the message should erase.
