Car running real rough

Asked by Alicia Jan 11, 2018 at 06:42 PM about the 1999 Kia Sephia

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My family bought this car through a family
friend and I have found many wires that look
like they don't belong. 3-4 black wires under
steering column are cut and 3 other wires
are spliced in where the others were cut and
anchored to a bolt on the cars frame under
the steering column. Then there is 2 wires
white& black twisted together that goes to 1
black wire that goes to my cars ignition but
it is not plugged into anything. After finding
these wires I go to try to start car this
morning and now it is running like crap and
real rough. I drive not even a mile down the
road and it doesn't want to stay running
then it starts smoking under the hood where
the a/c compressor is. Yesterday tho it was
running okay. Did the guy helping me look at
wires could he have unplugged something
that made this happen? Help please!
Thanks...

Ask the "friend" that sold your this POJ why the wiring is all screwed up. If that does not work you need to find a mechanic that is good with wiring.

Thanks. That's a problem...finding a trustworthy mechanic that is. Everyone I've ever used have overcharged and car would not be fixed to standards. How to find a reliable mechanic?

Yes the engine light is on but just yesterday I took it to auto zone and had the codes read. It shows cat convertor code only. I've known this tho. No new codes read. So y would when I started the car today and it ran real rough like it didn't want to stay running.. What would make that happen and when I stopped the car not even a mile down the road would the compressor start smoking? Like its locked up.
