Dome lights off with hatch open on 2015 Expedition

How to turn off interior lights with hatch open on
2015 Expedition? Went to the drive in and wanted
to watch with the back hatch open. Close the
doors and leave the key in the ignition and shut the
door.  I also closed the latch (not the gate)
manually on the back hatch. This combo worked!
