I've got a '90 Wrangler with the 4.2, and my mpg isn't much better than that. It wasn't made to be fuel efficient, so not much you can do - let me know if you learn any tricks. Mine also 'vents' some fumes when I top it off. Not sure why, but I figure I've got a dry/leaking seal at the top of the tank. You could probably drop the tank and replace some stuff, or do what I do, and don't top it off. Sorry I'm not much help.

ya they never get good gas milage cause there so square no arodinamics so its harder to push unless you change to fuel injection that helps i got a 1990 yj and mine kinda bad and my tires are only 31 10.5s and i have a weber carb but i also dont have a catalic converter on mine that seemed to help and get like 20 to 25 more hp
