while driving down the road you let off the gas and pull the transfer case lever back to 4 Hi or full time or even part time 4wd depending on what you have for a transfer case ...usually the instructions are on the drivers side sun visor ...The 4x4 part-time and 4 Lo ranges are for off road use only. The only time these ranges can be used on hard surface roads, is when the surface is covered with snow and ice.....//note there will be some gear clash on dry road surfaces and will be difficult to put it to 2wd...as before when taking it out let of the gas and push the lever to 2wd and then resume driving ...both shifts can be done sitting still as well
