Ford Escape - Capless tank - gas dropping quickly after fueling

Asked by alleycat786 Jan 09, 2015 at 10:32 AM about the 2014 Ford Escape

Question type: General

I just filled my Ford Escape with the capless fuel tank. Was able to fill it but then when I
started driving, I noticed the gas dropping rapidly. I checked to ensure the fuel door was
closed and am not able to figure this out.
Has anybody else had this experience or have recommendations?

Was your car running while you filled it? I just did this....was on a quarter tank, stopped to fill on way to Jersey Shore ( left car running while I fueled ), took off, gauge didn't move at all and in 30 minutes, gauge said 5 miles to empty. I pulled in another gas station and it filled $48.00 of gas! So, I paid at station earlier, no gas went in, but I paid for $30.00 gas at that station. DO NOT FILL WITH ENGINE RUNNING.....this is the second time this has happened to me in my 2015 Explorer Limited.
