Today my brake lights would not go off when I shut the car off I tried everything but they just stayed on. Finally they went off after a 1/2 hour. Why would happen?

Brake likes would not go off no matter what I did. I kept opening and closing
doors no luck. Somehow after a 1/2 hour they went off. Ant suggestions.

unplug the brake light switch if the lights go out replace switch
