2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee wont turn over

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

After driving and parking my car for an appointment we came out and it
wouldnt start.Power goes on but thats it. No clicking just a silent hum of
battery power to the car.  Triple A came and the guy smacks the starter with
a pole and it still wouldn't turn on. Late that night I somehow got it to turn on
just by turning the key to drive it to my house. No sound was made when it
turned on either.  It was instant and sounded like the car was still off it as
such a "smooth" transition.
I switched around the relays and it still couldn't start.
I smacked the starter with a small brass pipe, flashlight and a heavy metal
knife in its sheath. Nothing.
The battery is new only two months old.
I honestly cant afford tow fees and I make like 275 a week... Any advise on
how to get this thing started would be helpful  if just to get it to the shop. I
guess i'm rather desperate here.
Thank you in advance !

Hitting the starter works sometimes not all the time last time I tried doing it with a Jeep Cherokee did not start but it was the starter

I've tried other things to narrow down the problem. Won't start on any gear. Tried fiddling and making sure ignition switch is all connected.....I know it's not the switch in the transmission either. Do you think it would be advisable to keep tapping it, the starter, with something? I know it's a shot in the dark but I don't think I get enough leverage to hit it well and so I tap it. I can reach some wires that go to it but i'm afraid i'll electrocute myself. My "friend" suggested I put a new starter in myself and if i was mechanically inclined I would but, you know, I am not.... Thank you for confirming the problem though.
