Looking at getting a reliable inexpensive vehicle. Not looking to go off road .Is the 4 cylinder strong enough to run on the Texas highways at 75 + MPH. The price for one used 2014 is $12.000 to $14,000 on a Jeep Patriot with avg. 30,000 miles on it.
I rented a jeep patriot from Atlanta to Orlando. Worst rental ever. You will constantly be at high rpms at 75 with rough shifting between gears. The car struggles to keep up at those speeds and drains gas immensely. Take one for a test drive, put it in cruise control at 75, and watch the action yourself. Total junk. You are better off with the 3.6 pentastar engines, more powerful, more reliability.
I'd personally recommend either the Mazda CX-5 (ranked top SUV for 2013 and reliability) --only downside is they take synthetic oil for their high efficiency engines. Hard to find a 'steal' but you get your moneys worth.
