Subaru Outback timing belt

i have 98,000 miles on my 2013 Outback.  my mechanic said get ready to spend $1500 to replace the timing belt at about 115,000 miles.  your other posts say 105,000. which is more accurate?
He scared the bee-jesus  out of me saying it could go at any time and the engine will just stop.  "Like while I'm doing 70 MPH on I-95?" Yup, he says.
Is that true?
Is there any way to be sure this ends well?

From the web..... If it's truly a 2013 ..... you can skip this. On the other hand... make sure that it's not a bad timing chain...... starting in 2013 .... your car doesn't have a timing belt. By the way...if your timing chain breaks..the result will be disastrous...or it it's stretched or something... either way.... it's not good. See this quote below; "Since 2013, all Subaru engines have been equipped with timing chains rather than belts - except for the high-performance Subaru WRX and WRX STI. ... Using a timing belt instead of a chain makes replacement easy, so these engines can work extra hard and stay in time.". This is a really good argument for having a timing belt... which is easier and a planned maintenance item. Good luck.
