Check Engine Light

Asked by GuruC2VV8 Mar 05, 2019 at 09:18 AM about the 2013 Subaru Outback

Question type: General

My check engine light has been on since I was hit by another vehicle yesterday.
Could it be related to the impact?  If so, how can I reset it?

If you have an insurance claim for that accident, make sure the repair shop is aware of that check engine light so the cause is fixed. They will scan for the check engine light code and see if it could be accident related. Just cancelling the light doesn't do any good. It will just come back later when you'll have to pay for the repair. Disconnecting the battery will cancel the light/code but don't do it.

Ed. Thank you for yet another compliment. It means a lot coming from a knowledgeable mechanic like you. I learn a lot from your advice and I'm not the only one who benefits from your posts. You must be working overtime on this site as you passed me up a long time ago. I owe you many congratulations for each time you have broken the thousand mark. Keep up the good work. We all appreciate your hard work.
