How to stop the gas cap dinging?

Asked by Donna May 31, 2021 at 11:20 AM about the 2012 Jeep Liberty

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My Jeep Liberty is up there 8s age
and miles at 162,000 but it runs
really well except:
The gas cap keeps dinging no
matter what I do?
Makes me nuts!! I admit and own it:
I'm "that" woman that forgets to get
gas and can't change a tire! Dont
judge. Anyway....we even
bought a gas cap from a Jeep
dealer thinking it just wasn't playing
nice with an after market cap...and it
STILL dings? What gives? Be nice
and give me any advice!

Vehicles that have a specific gas cap warning light have a sense in the filler neck that tells the computer the gas cap is on securely. If that sensor is bad the light can remain on. Hope that helps! Jim
