My 1996 Ford explorer XLT radio just dark. No sound, no lights. Put a new fuse in - nothing. Any suggestions on what to try next?

With a seventeen year old radio, take it out, it is not difficult, then replace with a new one or bring it to an electronic repair shop for a looksee. Probably cost more to have it fixed than obtaining a replacement.
