where's the on board diagnostic located on the 1996 ford exploder

Should be either under the dash on the driver's side, or near the center console area. This is an OBD-II style connection which is a black 11 or 16 pin connector.

In our '97 it's underneath the dashboard behind a small, square, removable panel; just above the hood latch release.
