How do you check to see if alternator is bad

Most major auto parts stores will check this for you for free. This will test your battery and alternator.

With engine running, measure the voltage across the battery terminals. If it is 13.5 to 14.7 your alternator is charging. If voltage is substantially higher or lower have the alternator tested.
