one way to know is if your car is struggling to turn with a fully charged battery, anouther is if the starter is clicking or simply not doing anything with a fully charged battery. Tho with a car this age i could not see a starter going bad. My audis starter lasted up until the year 2012 and it was a 98 modal it would have still been going strong if it were not for the fact a cable rotted off the points. Only sure fire way to be sure is to remove it and take it to a starter shop and thats alot of wasted time and money. An easier way to figure out whats wrong is whats going wrong with the car to date?
