2011 Subaru Outback catastrophic engine failure

My 2011 Outback with only 69,000 miles on it that
was regularly maintenanced overheated and had
warping, the whole bit and now basically needs all
new guts. How does this happen? Have you ever
heard of this? We had it in to a Subaru dealership
19 days prior to the incident for some recall work.
They fixed the position of a headlight and put in a
new windshield wiper motor. Could something have
happened while they were under the hood that may
have caused this?

I don't think so, Engines blow with low miles or high miles on her. It happens and it happened to you. The overheating could have caused your issue !

Overheating is an engine killer. Since you don't say why it overheated I can only guess. If a hose blew and you did not shut off the engine immediately it would be too late.
