How long does car alarm sound?

Attempted theft last Saturday morning.  I woke up but alarm turned off before I got to the car in my driveway.

Most cars are around 2 min. (so they don't run all day and kill your battery). most will then beep several times quickly when you unlock it, thereby alerting you that someone has gained access to your car in your abscence.
