Additionally, if you find that your rear end is still lacking traction, I recommend adding bags of kitty litter, which can also be spread on the road is you lose traction. Also, canned & bottled beverages add weight while being able to be consumed in warmer weather. Four years in Minnesota taught me that lesson.

Here is another reason for rear wheel drive vs. front wheel drive in the snow. Think about police cars, tow trucks, plow trucks, and other public service vehicles. Most of which are rear wheel drive with snow tires. It's all about getting traction anyway you can.
