Gas pedel stops working while driving

Asked by manselmo Apr 08, 2014 at 04:41 PM about the 2010 Mazda Tribute

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2010 Mazda Tribute that while driving the gas pedel just stops working! The engine continues to run although it shakes badly. I have to pull over turn the engine off and wait for a minute. After restarting the car its fine but this last time it continued to hesitate. I brought it to the dealership twice and they cannot find anything wrong with it.

It sounds like it may be going into "limp home" mode. Are you getting a check engine light on the dash? Even if not, I had this happen to my 3 a number of years back and the cause was a dirty, or faulty MAF sensor. Sometimes I got the light, while other times, no light, but that was the issue. I first tried cleaning the MAF, but that didn't work, so I replaced it and no more trouble. Been trouble free for well over 6 yrs now.
