Serpentine belt

Asked by Q5Audi Mar 28, 2018 at 11:52 AM about the 2010 Audi Q5

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Audi Q5 2010, 91000k, did 7th service and
recently replaced engine mounts and gear
mounts and sparks. Whilst driving the
steering went stiff! Should the belt not have
been checked by the service center at
some point before it reached this point? I
have not had much joy with this vehicle! I
feel I’ve been ripped off by the service
center and this should’ve been
checked....Please help.

According to the service center, they said the the serpentine belt and something else needs replacing. However, the car has been in 4 times January for various reasons. At what point should the belts and pulleys be checked? Or is this just the normal practice of service people, to overlook and not check certain mechanisms until they ultimately break? Keep in mind every time I've paid not only for the parts but also for the labour and it has not been a cheap affair.
