Will a 2004 Legacy Subaru motor work in a Forester 2010

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Will a 2004 Legacy Subaru motor work in a Forester 2010? is there things that
have to be worked around, I see that the motors on a cross ref chart are the
same but I also had a tech say it wouldn't work.

Those are different versions of the EJ engine. The newer one has Variable Valve timing and older one does not which will lead to issues. One thing for sure.... an older version engine in a newer car means it will Never pass smog inspection.
