Whistle in engine

Asked by Thelancester1 Jun 10, 2014 at 09:55 AM about the 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Automatic diesel Santa Fe 05. Engine replaced 18months ago due to timing chain going.
Low whistle from engine while driving. Losing oil but no evidence on ground. Also brakes
make rumble sound and brake kicks back under foot while braking at low speed. Also
while pulling a horse on motorway it seemed to lose power as took a while to accelerate
with foot to floor. Never had problem towing horse before that. Garage says it's the rings
and to get rid of it. Any other ideas.

When you here a whistle sound, and you are losing oil, means it is your rings.Your mechanic nailed it.Just stick your finger in the exhaust, you will find your oil.

Thanks T-S-T for that info. Just stuck finger in exhaust and I got dry soot. Couldn't feel any oil though maybe it's up further. So do you think it's worth another engine and do you think the brake situation is connected to this prob. This jeep was only serviced two months ago. Thanks again.
