which car should I choose?

Asked by JulieBeutel Jul 29, 2020 at 12:35 PM about the 2010 Chevrolet Malibu

Question type: General

I am currently driving a 2005 Toyota Prius with about 145,000 miles.  My father died and I have the option of getting his 2010 Chevy Malibu with about 70,000 miles.  Should I take it? Or keep the Prius?

Sorry to hear that. But which car do you prefer driving? That would be my answer. No reason to sell the Prius if you like it, and drive a car just because it has low miles. Do you think you would have an attachment to the Chevy based on your father owning it?

Thanks. Not really. I was thinking just because it's a bit newer and has fewer miles. But a few friends have said keep the Prius.

Factor in how many miles a year you drive. If you drive 12k a year the Prius is probably good for another 4 years (maybe more).

Really I just want to hear from people who know about cars: which is the better car?

You want us to make your choice for you? These are both used cars and we don't know the condition or how well they have been maintained. The Prius has more than twice the miles of the Chevy. I personally would not pick a Prius and since the Chevy has low miles I would pick it. Only you know your needs. If you can keep both maybe you should.

I would keep the Toyota and sell the Chevy. Toyota is a better vehicle and will easily go another 100,000 miles if properly maintained. GM has been churning out poor quality vehicles for the past 25 years. There's a reason why they went bankrupt! GMs are plaqued with electrical problems that can't be fixed as well as premature mechanical problems that are expensive to fix. Check out the website carcomplaints.com and see what others are saying about both vehicles and you'll see the Toyota is the better choice. Hope that helps! Jim
