4 x 4 Problem

Asked by JWilk Dec 22, 2012 at 07:44 AM about the 1998 Honda Passport

Question type: General

My daughter's Passport went into 4x4 ok but during driving it popped out of the High / 4L on the floorboard.  Made a crazy grinding sound.  The Passport would no longer move and had to stop and put it back into High.  It did this several times and the lever for high/4l shakes really bad before popping out.  What are we doing wrong? It is not safe for her to drive in the snow doing this.

You have a serious problem. It could be many things and I would not drive it at all until you find out what the problem is. If it is a front differential your looking at about $2000 but add a tranny to that and you've got much bigger problems.
