2001 honda civic stalls out

I have just bought a 2001 Honda civic for 500$ and
the only problem is that it would randomly stall out
but only for a couple of minutes and then it will
start right up . I kinda do smell a tiny bit of gas
when it runs and it's not extremely loud but it does
make some sound . I was told I need a fuel pump
multiple times but I would just love some more
opinions.
