how to discover transmission problem for honda pilot 2005

take it to a performance measuring dynamometer like the smog analysis engine performance fellows use to note the shift points thru the gears~

take a look at the fluid level and color...smell should be nice and not smell burnt...every so often change the transmission filter and oil~

Trans fluid should be red in color and have a sweeter smell to it. wipe some on your finger and look for medal fileings all so. if it is brown in color you can change the fluid and the filter . but if it is black in color be careful that means it is flashed. Some times changeing fluids and filter will work but if flashed it may make things worse

yah, could you imagine a plugged filter and subsequent overheating from lack of flow?....ugly thought..that one, but if it's cherry red would think that a leak was occuring, possibly at the flex connection to the radiator and fluid level has dropped...would examine that rubber connection with a tissue~
