1974 vw super beetle autostick to manual

Im currently trying to convert an autostick vw super
beetle to a manual. I've just got a manual
transmission for it but i ran into a problem. I have
both the shift rods from the autostick and from the
manual. With the autostick shift rod it is too long.
But for the manual shift rod it is too short. Any
ideas as to what could be the problem?
