Question type: Maintenance & Repair

HI
The catalytic converter warning light on or VW Polocross  came on at 65,000
kms. VW diagnosed a faulty timing chain tensioner and replaced it $2000, then
report we also need new HT leads and Plugs because one lead is shorting out.
could it be possible that eh shorting out lead caused a plug/cylinder to misfire
or miss, leading to unburnt fuel in the converter thus maybe the chain wasn't
the problem at all?
