1998 Ford Taurus

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I was driving my 1998 Ford Taurus about 50-
55mph and suddenly out of nowhere I experienced
total engine power loss. I tried to restart the car but
it won't start. There is electrical power but when
you turn the key to start it nothing happens. Could
this be a main engine fuse of some sort?

You'll have to check several components. Check the charging system (alternator, battery, fusible links, megafuse), if you have a multimeter, try a voltage drop test to the starter, and make sure that is getting power. If you can't get the car up to a shop, pull the alternator off and have an auto parts store do a bench test on it. You may also want to test the battery, a dead cell can leave it with enough juice to run some lights, but not enough to turn a starter.
