Random tantrums.

Asked by Amy Feb 06, 2017 at 12:56 PM about the 1994 GMC Sierra 1500

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I've had my pickup for over a year now. It is a 1994 GMC
Sierra 1500. This winter, it started acting up. What happens
is it will sputter when accelerating, but only if it's in gear.
The sputtering is at its worst when I get up around 45mph.
The catch is that I can't predict when it happens. At first, I
thought there was water in my gas, so I added heat to the
tank. At first I thought it had fixed it, but later on it did it
again. (I know there isn't water in my fuel, otherwise all of
the vehicles in our fleet would be acting up.) I'll have it
running and warning up for up to a half hour to defrost
before I go somewhere with it, and it will act up after 3
miles when I've reached the highway and am accelerating
to get up to speed. After it sits for a while, it runs just fine.
There are other times where I'll have driven it somewhere
with no problems and it will be fine, but then it starts to act
up when I'm returning. The fuel filter was changed when it
first started acting up.

I've used a fuel system cleaner. I've been thinking of getting it tuned.

Figured out the problem. The distributor rotor was crapping out. The distributor itself was the original and had never been changed.
