Are you putting the dielectric grease under it when you install it?
Yes it is, the coil could be causing the problem. May want to have it checked at like Auto Zone. Also look for any bad wiring were the insulation is worn off the wire, check the plugin on the coil, gently pull on the wires to see if there spongy indicating a broken wire. When you pull gently on a wire checking it, it should feel firm.

i will pass on these ideas tomorrow to my mechanic,,thank you all so much for your help
i used to own a 98 safari. It was a shit shoe if the air was damp and you had the dog house off in the dark. You get a very fancy light show :P. Any ways putting some plastic protectors over the spark plug cables is always a good idea with these vans. there is a little computer that is often mounted to the coil some times you need to replace it when your having problems like this as well as the coil. Once every 100k i would replace most if not all the systems for the sparking because the arcs tends to ware the other parts out fast. and if you have power locks and they randomly start locking and unlocking uncontrollably that is a battery issue not a ghost :P replacement with a new is the answer.
