a 98 Ford Explorer it has a 4.0

There may be a need to take along the PCM from a donor vehicle or purchase a new PCM if you locate a lone engine, so check. (gone for 4.0 to 5.0)

I have an 02 Lincoln town car. The motor went out with 35 days of ownership. What can I swap the motor out with. The mechanic says about 1500 for another town car rebuilt or salvaged motor. This is a v8 engine. Can I swap out the engine with an engine from a Ford Explorer?
