Why isn't my gas gauge working?

Asked by swftruck May 16, 2012 at 08:38 PM about the 2000 GMC Sonoma

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The gas gauge in my 2000 Sonoma isn't working. While I'm driving it stays at the Full mark, when I'm at a stop it drops below Empty. What do I do? I haven't checked anything and honestly don't really know where anything is engine wise. I was going to check the fuses to see if maybe it would be a blown fuse but while I was searching online for the fuse location I found this forum. Hope someone else has had this problem and can tell me what to do (and hope it's cheap!)

Just bought one and they put a different pump/sending unit in and it went from empty to full but would not change with use! They changed the instrument cluster and that did no good. Suspecting a ground wire may be at fautl now but how to trace it?
