2000 taurus - wont shift and the door locks do not automatically engage.

Asked by 73capri Apr 26, 2012 at 12:43 PM about the 2000 Ford Taurus

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Sometimes after engine start the doors do not lock automatically, the speedometer does not work and the
tranny wont shift.  After rolling about half a block the locks kick in and it shifts and the speedometer
starts working.  Only happens intermittently but seems to be happening more frequently.  Are there speed
sensors or something that could be causing this?

That would be the first place I would look, yes. All functions are tied to the speed sensor for reference.
