I have a 97 dodge Dakota with the 318 2wd.
When i drive it it will shift through all the
gears but when i kick down on it just revs up
real high and when i drive it long distance it
stops shifting

The transmission is probably on the way out but check the fluid level and you can try some Lucas Transmission Fix to maybe get a little more life out of it.
