2004 Transmission into a 2000.

Asked by Richard Aug 28, 2018 at 06:49 PM about the 2000 Ford Crown Victoria

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2000 Crown Vic with a dead transmission, a friend offered me his 2004 Crown Vic Transmission. Both are P71s, BUT I have been told the VSS is not the same and it is impossible to change without a complete tear down and rebuild. What is the difference, I believe it is the pulse rate if so what is the rates for a 2000 and then a 2004??

If you have an 04 Crown Vic P71, a 2000 won't work. Ford revamped the P71 in 2003 and you'll need an 03 or newer tranny to be successful in the change over. Good luck
