1998 dodge dakota stalling when driving. V6 3.9 automatic transmission

i have changed fuel pump, done tune up and changed cat 02 sensors to no avail it will seem to run good then problem returns.sometimes would kick back in and run but backfire, but after changing 02 sensors this time it made that diesel sound when it stalled.

Backfiring is unburned fuel exploding in the cat or muffler, you may be running very rich, with a multitude of causes
