2002. bout time you did a little electrical maintenance, in the form of hosing off the corrosion from your battery, and cleaning off the ground lug connections to engine and chassis, in this way we can be certain the computer is getting clean power.

yes sounds like a connection problem to me, disconnect the VSS at the back of the trans and spray it with some carb cleaner or contact cleaner and put it back on. do the same with the TC lockup solenoid connection on the front of the trans.
