2006 Charger is a shrieker

Asked by Norman May 16, 2015 at 12:36 PM about the 2006 Dodge Charger

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My daughter has a 2006 Charger (v-6) with about 45,000 miles. For about 10,000 or so
it has been a shrieker. This shrieking does not happen all the time but seems to come
and go. Of course, when you bring it in to be checked it is quiet as a mouse. Then at
other times the shrieking is so loud that windows in houses along the road explode. It
Does not happen when breaks are used. Still front pads/rotors have just been replaced
($500). Should we replace back breaks?

Can you elaborate on the shrieker noise? Does it change with vehicle speed? Generally, where does the sound come from, front, rear, engine compartment? Does it shriek even when not moving and in park?

Stanford...Thanks for getting back to us. The noise seems to come from the back of the car. It comes on at random points when driving at at random speeds. This seems to be an issue mentioned by other 2006 Charger owners in the past. Since her car has relatively low miles, I am assuming that others ran into the problem at an earlier date. The other postings never had a satisfactory answer to the problem. The breaks in front have been replaced in a local shop a few weeks ago. The back brakes were replaced by one of her friends in Nov. of 2014. The shop said there was nothing unsafe. As is always the case whenever a guy from the shop drives in the car it is silent.
